Uzbekistan may ban single-use plastic products in areas with cultural heritage sites

Uzbekistan is planning to ban the import, sale and production of single-use plastic products in areas where tangible cultural heritage sites are located, as well as on protected, health and recreational lands.
The draft law was published by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan.
The proposed ban applies to single-use plastic products, with the exception of items made from natural organic polymers.
The explanatory note lists the following products:

disposable cups,

tubes,
-
ice cream sticks,
-
cotton swabs,
-
packaging film,
-
polyethylene bags.
Under the draft law, the following fines are предусмотрены:

for individuals — from 2 to 5 base calculation units (from 660,000 to 1.65 million soums),
-
for officials — from 5 to 10 units (from 1.65 million to 3.3 million soums).
For violations committed on a particularly large scale:
-
individuals may be fined 20–25 units (from 6.6 million to 8.25 million soums),
-
officials — 25–30 units (from 8.25 million to 9.9 million soums).
